Experiences and modern research show that meditation is helpful for life goals as regular and diverse as overcoming a traumatic heartbreak to increasing daily productivity. Meditation is considered a type of mind-body complementary medicine. Meditation can produce a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind. During meditation, you focus your attention and eliminate the stream of jumbled thoughts that may be crowding your mind and causing stress. This process may result in enhanced physical and emotional well-being.

  1. Meditation keeps you young and improves longevity. One of the main reasons for this is its diminishing effects on stress, a factor that has a negative impact on the body.
  2. Meditation reduces exhaustion among entrepreneurs as it reduces workplace stressors, bringing you calmer and energy. Efficiency naturally increases as you feel more energized and have more clarity of mind.
  3. Meditation improves concentration and helps one to be in the present moment. If you observe, the mind vacillates between the past and the future.
  4. Regular meditators with chronic pain are able to live with a pain that is manageable.
  5. Meditation improves cognition and increases your ability to perform tasks requiring focus.
  6. The brain tends to develop as it’s used. Meditation may retrain the brain to use the prefrontal cortex, known as the “me center,” to regulate the amygdala.
  7. Meditation positively impacts blood pressure, heart muscle effectiveness and general cardiovascular mortality.
  8. When you meditate, you train your brain to focus on the present, and this can help you learn to control and process your emotions in the moment.
  9. Practicing mindfulness can reduce stress and lower blood pressure so you’ll feel more relaxed.
  10. When you meditate, you may find yourself drifting off to sleep more easily and getting better quality sleep.
  11. You will learn to work through anxiety, anger and other problems so that you don’t turn to unhealthy behaviors, like drugs or alcohol, to self-soothe.
  12. Practice meditation regularly and you’ll see a “chain reaction” that leads to better mental functioning.
  13. We all need a little more kindness in our lives, and meditation can do the trick.
  14. Meditation takes us to a place deep inside ourselves, which can bring feelings of love and peace.
  15.  Mindfulness helps counter your consciousness and reactivity around food, adding to the enjoyment of eating while recognizing hunger cues.
  16. Meditation teaches you to experience discomfort “without freaking out about it,” opening the door to new possibilities, where you’ll feel more comfortable asking for a raise, having a tough conversation or tackling anything else you’ve been avoiding.
  17. Meditation teaches you to own up to actions and behaviors, and stop living in denial or lying to yourself about issues in your life.
  18. Fighting drowsiness and brain fog may be a daily occurrence. Mindfulness training can improve your ability to stay continually alert over a longer period of time.

Don’t let the thought of meditating the “right” way add to your stress. If you choose to, you can attend special meditation centers or group classes led by trained instructors. But you can also practice meditation easily on your own. Or you may find apps to use, too. And you can make meditation as formal or informal as you like, however it suits your lifestyle and situation. Some people build meditation into their daily routine. For example, they may start and end each day with an hour of meditation. But all you really need is a few minutes of quality time for meditation.
